The awards are now divided into three categories: Game of the Year (Spiel Des Jahres), Children's Game of the Year (Kinderspiel), and Connoisseur Game of the Year (Kennerspiel). At yesterday's ceremony, the 2024 winners were unveiled. 🌟
Sky Team clinched the 2024 Spiel Des Jahres, edging out contenders like Captain Flip and In the Footsteps of Darwin! ✈️🏆 In this game, you take control of passenger planes preparing to land at various destinations, working together to navigate the shared dice board that mimics a cockpit. Each roll lets you manage different aspects of flying, but you'll face real aviation challenges like fuel leaks and icy runways. 🚀🎲
The Spiel Des Jahres jurors said that “Sky Team’ is impressive from take-off to landing in terms of gameplay, atmosphere and theme. The short rounds can be very rewarding if you win and if you miss the landing, you will want to try again straight away”.
The Kennerspiel Des Jahres, also known as the Connoisseur Game of the Year, has been awarded to E-Mission, known as Daybreak in English-speaking regions. Designed by Matt Leacock (of Pandemic fame) and Matteo Menapace, this cooperative card game challenges you to save the world. 🌍✨ As world leaders, you and your team must work together over six rounds to combat global warming by reducing CO2 emissions. ♻️🌿
